Regular readers know that I use the Australian Autopot Hydroponic system to grow tomatoes and other vegetables. Now there's a system called Aqua Box that automatically waters a raised bed garden using a valve very similar to the one employed in the Autopot.
The system places a small box containing a water valve in the center of the raised bed. This box is kept filled with water by the valve which regulates the flow of water into the box. Strips of absorbent material then radiate outward from this box into the raised bed. The absorbent strips wick moisture out of the box using capillary action and this is what waters your plants. The whole system is fed by an external reservoir. Fill the reservoir periodically and the system does the daily watering.
A very interesting system that I will add to my spring shopping list. Pretty Clever those Aussies!
Below is a video that demonstrates how the Aquabox works.
One more thing....Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I plan to post Thanksgiving recipes, so you may want to visit this site each day next week.
