Every now and then you see a gardening idea that makes you smile. Here's one that caught my attention.
It's an effort to make our urban environments a little more green.
The basic idea is to sell seeds to urban dwellers so that they can easily grow flowers and grasses in open city lots, or even in cracks in the sidewalk. The novelty of the idea is to use old candy machines to distribute the seeds which cost just $.25.
You put a quarter into the candy machine and turn the crank. However, instead of getting a gumball, you get a "seed bomb." This is a mixture of clay, compost and seeds. The purchaser then tosses the seed bomb into any open lot. When it rains, the ball disintegrates and creates a mini environment in which the seeds can sprout.
I'm not sure how practical or successful this will be, but it is novel and kind of clever. Good luck to GreenAid, the company creating the machines and seed bombs.
